Landscape Symbols

It may be odd to many of us that work, walk, and only talk about our daily life of work, bills, and picking up the kids, that our garden, front yard, or the area of which we plant certain trees or bushes could actually represent and furthermore symbolize a certain aspect of culture, life, and art. The concept behind landscape art is that the natural scenery of various plants, trees, mountains, or rivers collaboratively works together in a collective effort to create a unique, natural, and breath taking composition of symbolic meaning. As this type of symbolism has been prevalent since some of the earliest times of the Greeks dating back to 1500 B.C.E., landscape art was and still is a form of art that is appreciated through its symbolic meanings in various countries around the world. As the Chinese drew ink paintings known as Shan Shui, and Italians drew famous landscape paintings such as Saint Jerome in the Desert and Rest on the Flight into Egypt, it is very possible that some of the old art your grandparents gave you could be landscape art. The idea behind landscape art is to have an underlying symbolic meaning that represents the austere beauty of the world and its features.

Landscape symbols today range in a vast array of different purposes and perspectives. As an art, landscape symbolism is still quite prominent, but what landscape symbolism has transcended into more recently, is the idea that in a yard, front lawn, or other places that trees and bushes are present, they hold certain symbolism. If the tree is facing the sun, it can be interpreted that the tree is a bold, strong, and foundational tree, or if the tree is small and staged in the background, the tree is part of a holistic union amongst other trees. This abstract conceptualization of landscaping also can be understood in terms of bushes, flowers, statues, and trees which are all very influential parts of the idea. As bushes hold several different interpretations into what each ones place, color, and type can showcase, bushes are a strong foundational basis for landscape symbolism, as they are often seen as the base or beginning of landscape symbolism.

Landscape symbolism is quite popular today, as it is a way for various individuals who are deeply interested in this concept to showcase their technical skills in the art, and furthermore provide a symbolic picture that represents their skills, beliefs, culture, and art in a form that is abstract to many, but once discovered and understood could be loved by all.
